KODA My "Speech Therapists"
My two hearing sons were my "speech therapists" because I had always asked either of them using my fingerspelling how to say the word like Jose Canseco the retired major leaguer's first name and my oldest son Micah said "Hoesee" in Spanish. They never made fun of how I spoke but one day Micah made fun of my crooked numb lips when I was talking after my root canal treatment. In order to get (fun) even with him, I went behind Micah at the barber shop and whispered to Irv the longtime haircutter to cut his hair real short which he did laughing. Irv and his brother/co-owner Tom also cut my boys' hair knew that I was always picking on my boys. When it was done, Micah who asked for a crew cut was surprised to find out how short his hair was when he saw at the handheld mirror Irv gave to him. Irv and I chuckled. On our way home I told Micah what I had done and he hit my arm with the back of his hand and we laughed. When we got into the church bus to go to a rollerskating rink a few hours later, his friend Holly screamed when she saw his hair after taking off his baseball cap and we laughed so hard. Thats one of my pleasant memories. My boys know sign language that makes our communication very easy.
